Hackney Downs Studios is currently home to 90 creative businesses that are working in 55 individual private studios and one large shared studio The Heartspace.
January 2012 we opened our doors to the local community and provided workspace for our residents. We’ve got a massive variety of studios and workspaces to suit pretty much every kind of creative concept – studios, workshops, railway arches, retail units, office spaces. Once you are in a studio it is yours to make your own and we encourage you to bring plenty of personal touches to the space. Every day things change and new studios become available.

The Village Green
Central to the site is the Village Green, currently a car park, which is already morphing into a courtyard / meeting place and includes local café The Russet. The space acts as a hub for the Hackney Downs Studios residents and the local communities.
The Village Green is a brand new independent shopping and cultural development.
We are looking for proposals for one remaining shop and would love to hear your ideas about how you can add to our community.
The shop units benefit from large glass fronts and double height entrances.

The Heartspace
Based in ‘the heart’ of Hackney Downs Studios. The affordable shared studio scheme comprises of over 3000 sq ft, with plenty of natural light and access to a roof terrace. Beautiful and inspiring the room contains artists from all disciplines, including fashion designers, typographers, authors and sculptors
By offering an affordable studio solution we aim to afford creative’s an entry-level platform to pursue their practice. Bi-annually a group exhibition will be curated exhibiting the works made within the space, demonstrating the creative networks made within Hackney Downs Studios.
